Why Christ?

The first 2 chapters in the Bible tell us how we got here.

The 3rd chapter tells us about how man screwed up and sinned against God.

The Rest of the Bible, except for a few things in Revelation is God trying to fix what man screwed up.

When God created man life was easy. There were no droughts, floods or natural disasters of any kind. Food grew out of the ground at ease. No one got sick and no one would ever die. As a matter of fact no animals or plant life would ever die either.

So because of our sin, death was brought upon the human race. Now we will all die. So God had a plan to fix death. His plan was to send Christ (God incarnate) into the world to live a sinless life and to die on the cross for the sins of mankind. So now those of us who put our faith in that fact are no longer held under the penalty of sin.

Romans 5:10-11 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled we shall be saved by His life. "And not only this, but we also exult in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation.

P.S. Romans chapter 5 might be something worth reading before bed time tonight?

  1. Hmm. One might have thought that an omnipotent God would be able to "fix what man screwed up" in less than 4000+ years. I know I know, "God's time is not our time", but it still seems like he should have been able to snap his fingers and fix it, no? Why did he have to engineer some elaborate plan to send his son and make sure he was nailed to some bits of wood, etc. etc.? Seems like a strange, roundabout way of "fixing things".

  2. Frivolous chapters if I ever read them.

From what I gather, it doesn't sound like an all powerful all knowing God behind the Bible to me.

    Elementary my dear Feeno...

If God were real, he would have made things right to begin with. Which (technically) means he never would have created *original sin, because then he wouldn't have had to personify himself as his own son just to kill himself for the crimes against himself he created in the inventing of original sin in the first place.

It seems to reason that an *all knowing God would have simply avoided that mess to begin with. I mean, after all, he would have known better.

    Some food for thought.

  3. To avoid the mess would have simply meant avoiding man. Some are glad he didn't.

Stay tuned for "Why not Christ"?

  4. You're saying that the only other way God could come up to avoid the mess would be to completely avoid creating humanity altogether? One might think that an omniscient and omnipotent God could come up with more ideas than just two: a) create humans and let them mess everything up for thousands of years before doing anything about it, or b) don't create humans at all. There seems to be at least a dozen other options that are in between there. And I'm sure an omniscient being could think of more.

  5. Good morning Jeff

I'm not saying it's the only other way. But it's the way He chose to do it.

And if He did choose another way, no matter what it was, I'd bet you'd still be an Atheist? Well unless His plan was to overlook sin.

God respects man so much he let's us choose. And right now we all have the ability to make our own choices. What we can't always do is choose the consequences of our choices.

You can choose no gods, false gods, money, man or anything else. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.

I know we've been "chatting" for at least two years or so, and tho we don't really know each
other I hope you do realize that I don't say these things to try to sound smart, snobby or defensive. My only motive is to see people I care about have a relationship with the Lord.

But I am grateful you are at least willing to hear me out even tho we often disagree. You still da man.

  6. Well come on, now, Feeno, I thought we were past the "you're just an atheist because you want to live in sin" stage. If I could be convinced that an all-powerful, all-loving God existed, then sure I'd believe in him. But I'm challenging that very notion -- that there is an all-loving God who nevertheless chose to let thousands and thousands of years of suffering, pain, sin, and death go by before enacting his "plan" to save humanity. Something about this plan stinks to high heaven (so to speak), and it doesn't sound to me like the plan of an all-powerful, all-loving being. He has literally infinite ways to solve the problem (since he can do anything), and this is the way he chooses to do it? That just doesn't seem very probable to me.

But the answer, "Well that's the way he chose to do it" isn't a rebuttal to my argument. I'm essentially saying that since this plan doesn't seem like the plan of an all-powerful, all-loving being, one of the following is likely the case:
    a) God isn't all-powerful (he wanted to do better, but couldn't)
    b) God isn't all-loving (he could have done better, but he's kind of a dick)
    c) God doesn't exist (the "plan" does not exist)

You can disagree with me on that one, of course, but I hope you can see why simply stating "Well that's the way he chose to do it" doesn't really answer the question. I'm challenging whether he's there at all.

We could look at it another way: Does this plan of sending one's son to be a human sacrifice to appease a God who demands punishment for sin sound like the plan of a divine, loving God, or does it sound more like the plan of a bunch of goat herders who had spent their whole lives sacrificing animals to appease the Gods?

  7. Aylo Jeffery,(I wrote that in my best Australian accent, kinda like "maybe a dingo ate your baby).

I have tried twice to respond and both times I somehow have managed to delete my responses. I don't know if the Lord deleted it, the devil deleted it or I'm just a giant dofus on the computer? I thinks it's the latter. Our computer at home is on the fritz, so I'm on the youth pastor's computer here at church.

When I wrote "Why Christ" I knew I was gonna write "Why not Christ"? So instead of answering your questions now, please read my next post and see if it doesn't address some of those issues?

    thanks

    Arohanui! = Big-love

Te Hapū = The whole tribe/clan

E noho rā = Goodbye from "one" person who is the one who is "leaving"

Translated in English it kind of was-->Thanks Feeno.Special love to your whole family.Goodbye from me.

    Arohanui = big-love

verses the shorter word Aroha (omly) is spoken in more general terms and as such = compassion, tenderness, sustaining love
