At the cross, at the cross where I first saw the light...

As we were driving south along peaceful and winding country roads I saw several places where people must have died in traffic accidents. You can tell because they mark the side of the road with little wooden crosses to honor those lost. And it got me thinking about the cross and how popular it is.

I'm not sure what the most popular tattoo is? But I'd say the cross is right up there at the top, next to the topless Hula dancer and Mom? And of all the things people hang from their rear view mirrors the cross is a close second behind the pine tree air freshener. But easily when it comes to jewelry the cross is number one. You don't even have to be a Christian, people just love rockin' the cross. Cross earrings, cross charms, cross bracelets and the all time best seller, cross necklaces.

Are there any atheists out there that are sporting a cross somewhere?

And what does the cross symbolize to you?

Thanks, feeno

  1. I'm not much for modern Christian music, but one part of one chorus stands out to me: "I'll never know the price it cost, to see my sins upon that cross."

    Cheers.

  2. Thanks. This song popped into my head earlier today for some reason.

It's an interesting question for the atheist commenters.

  3. It is also an interesting question for believers who wear a cross around their neck, particularly when you consider what it sympolized at the time of Jesus. The modern day equivalent would be someone wearing jewelry that was a replica of a hangman's noose or an electric chair.

It was and is a statement that we follow Someone who, as far as the world is concerned, was sentenced to death as a common criminal, and we identify with Him.

"Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."
1 Corinthians 1:22-24 (New International Version)

  4. I stayed home from church today but after those 3 responses I feel like the only ones who missed out on church were the ones who haven't read these responses. Very nice and edifying. Thanks Brothers.

  6. There is plenty of sins heaped up on the cross thats for sure.

Like deaths and all manner of nastiness caused through faith.

And before the cross,it was many different types of sacrifices.

Folks have been ((paying)) for peoples idiotic different faiths in their "personal" salvation or priviledge/prosperity etc ,for years upon years.

Thats the nature of ignorance and selfishness of gambling on the unknown .Gamblers dont often even bother to give a f**k about even thinking much about who else they hurt in the process

In any real HONESTY ....After putting all the bullshit aside ....They think life is only all about themselves
